Guiding engineering’s evolution towards a more humanistic future, by responding to the vast environmental and social needs of our times and the digital revolution. Training the leaders of tomorrow. Creating this “humanistic engineering” is the mission of the Evolve Foundation, launched by Maire Tecnimont at the end of 2021. Taking its cue from an historical heritage of immense value.
Milan, 22 December 2021 - The Foundation’s aim is to help people understand the fundamental role that engineering can play in this era of ecological and digital transition, putting the historical, technical and cultural identity of the Maire Tecnimont Group at the service of training the next generation of humanist engineers. Maire Tecnimont has set itself an ambitious goal in creating the Evolve Foundation. It has been entrusted with the task of promoting the Group's historical heritage by using art and culture as a means of communication and networking; disseminating scientific content; and carrying out socio-economic studies, training, and educational projects in collaboration with universities and other non-profit organizations, for the benefit of the communities in which it operates.
"Engineering today is facing a great challenge: interpreting scenarios that impose historical paradigm shifts, providing creative, innovative and effective answers to enable a future in which economic growth can be combined with social needs and the protection of our planet's resources", says Maire Tecnimont CEO Pierroberto Folgiero. "Our times call for a transformation of classical engineering into a 'humanistic engineering', able to elaborate assumptions that include ethical, social and environmental aspects, and capable of solving increasingly complex problems by applying the best innovations with a critical sense and a multidimensional vision".
"It's the rediscovery of that all-Italian genius that has made such an invaluable contribution to world knowledge, and which combines vision, culture, intellect, and entrepreneurial spirit", said Maire Tecnimont President Fabrizio Di Amato, who also serves as President of the Evolve Foundation. "That's why we started with the creation of a historical archive, a 'heritage of genius,' with about 7,000 drawings and projects made by Italy's greatest engineers and architects".
These are projects that have achieved milestones in the evolution of Italy’s engineering and architecture. They are a visionary forerunner of sustainability and constitute an historical heritage of great educational and scientific significance, digitized and already accessible to scholars and researchers on request. The value of an historical archive is twofold: on one hand, the preservation of a heritage; on the other hand, the value created by sharing it, giving it back to the area and the community.
The Foundation has its legal headquarters in Rome and its operative head office in Milan at the Garibaldi Center, the Group's headquarters, where exhibitions and training activities will be developed in the future.
