Milan, June 27, 2017 - The global value chain of Maire Tecnimont Group as a pivot to create value through long-term industrial collaborations with its strategic suppliers. This was the main topic during "SEENERGY", an event organized by Maire Tecnimont in its headquarters at Garibaldi Towers, which was attended by more than 120 chief executive officers and sales directors of Italian and foreign multinationals of Maire’s supply chain. SEENERGY marked a challenge to work together for a new way to address the global market: the top managers of all the multinational corporations, together represented more than 520 billion of euro turnover and a workforce of more than 2 million professionals around the world. SEENERGY, the first event of this kind promoted by Maire Tecnimont, was organized by the Group Procurement team, led by Paolo Mondo.

In an ever-competitive market, Maire Tecnimont promotes innovation also in the procurement of goods and services. The Group, engaged in 30 countries, is in fact proposing a challenge to the strategic suppliers that each year contribute to the realization of its projects on 24 time zones, from America to Siberia to Southeast Asia, promoting a more proactive approach to revolve the traditional procurement paradigm. A more integrated relationship customer-supplier, focused on leveraging industrial collaboration, enabling suppliers to create value from the proposal stage to the execution phase. The Procurement, the Group's function in charge of purchasing goods and services, has been playing in the last years an ever-strategic role when it comes to implement mega "turnkey" plants. Today, it represents the most effective tool an innovative company can leverage to create value and increase its competitiveness. Thus, Procurement is fundamental not only for the selection and assessment of the most reliable partners, but also to interact with all the Group’s functions, during the whole project’s life-cycle. In 2016, in fact, the Group ordered goods and services for a total overall value of about 2.5 billion euros, out of which 1 billion in Italy: in this view, the successful completion of a mega plant depends also on the coordination capabilities of the entire supply chain, as well as on the strength of the relationships with all the key suppliers.

The challenge launched by SEENERGY

The meeting was opened by Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman and Maire Tecnimont's main shareholder: "We believe that only with a strong partnership between the contractor and its key suppliers we will find our path to success in an ever-changing scenario." CEO Pierroberto Folgiero shared the Group's industrial strategy and added: "We increase our competitiveness by going beyond the traditional commercial client-supplier relationship, pushing to evolve it in a long-term industrial collaboration. The key concept here is to share the challenges of our business: this is the way to create synergies, with the aim to reduce costs and time on each project." Precious contributions came from Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who focused on the ability to create value by leveraging teamwork, and by Roberto Nava, Partner in Bain & Company, who stressed that market trends require greater integration between partners, with the Procurement function playing the key interface. The main topic of a more proactive industrial collaboration was further delved on in the second part of the event, in a discussion panel held by the main business functions of Maire Tecnimont and moderated by Paolo Mondo.

A global pivot for the Made in Italy of Engineering

The Procurement  becomes even more important within the whole energy industry, as a strategic tool to spawn greater value to ensure sustainable development for the entire Italian business network.  Maire, in fact, has just been awarded the largest contract in its history, the mega Amursky project in Russia, a strategic venture for the entire Russian development plan to export gas to China. A few comparisons illustrate the scale of the project: the steel structure would be sufficient to build 10 Eiffel towers, while the length of the electric and instrument wiring would cover the distance between Milan and the Latvian capital Riga. It is likely that the value of Italian orders recorded in 2016 is going to increase, as Maire Tecnimont will act as springboard for the whole Italian hydrocarbon supply chain of subcontractors and suppliers, both for those who already know the Russian market, and those who will untap it thanks to Maire's international network.
