Sluiskil, 14 March 2016 – The ceremony for the first stone laying of Yara’s new urea granulation plant was held today in Sluiskil, near Terneuzen, in the Netherlands.
Norway-based Yara is the world’s largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers: its knowledge, products and solutions grow farmers’, distributors’ and industrial customers’ businesses profitably and responsibly, while nurturing and protecting the earth’s resources, food and environment.
The event, held at the site, was attended by Henk Kamp, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Petter Østbø, Senior VP and Head of Production of Yara, Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman of Maire Tecnimont, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Maire Tecnimont, Jan Lonink, Mayor of Terneuzen, as well as other institutions and industry representatives.
The project’s scope of work entails the realization of a 2,000 tonnes per day new urea granulation plant, including some utilities. The plant will use proprietary technology developed and owned by Yara, which allows also the production of special, sulphur enriched, urea grades. The plant will be executed by an integrated team of Yara’s and Tecnimont’s specialists.
The Sluiskil site is one of the most important European fertilizer production complexes and has also got a symbolic value to Tecnimont, since its predecessor Montecatini Group carried out its activities in The Netherlands in the very same site during the 60s and 70s.
“We are glad to be part of such an important project both for Yara and the local community of Terneuzen. This initiative will significantly contribute to improve the Country’s fertilizers value chain, enabling all stakeholders to benefit from it - said Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman of Maire Tecnimont. “We are eager to support such a strategic client in its development plans”.
